The World Bank board has approved the transfer of $ 280 million from Afghanistan's frozen fund to two aid agencies to help the country deal with the volatile economy following the Taliban take power and the US withdrawal on August 31, 2021.
Donors from the Afghanistan Reconstruction Fund (ARTF), managed by the World Bank, must first approve the transfer before the money reaches the World Food Program and UNICEF.
Thirty-one donors from that group are due to meet tomorrow.
The World Bank Board held an informal meeting on Tuesday to discuss the transfer of up to $ 500 million of the ARTF's $ 1,5 billion in humanitarian assistance.
