Expensive electricity shuts down Aluminum Plant in Montenegro, 500 people could lose their jobs
The management of the Aluminum Plant (CAP) announced to its workers to prepare for the gradual closure of departments in Electrolysis, ie a complete cessation of aluminum production from December 15 due to high electricity prices from January 1, when their existing supply contract expires. with Elektrostopanstvo, reported Vijesti.
KAP now pays for electricity at a price of 45 euros per megawatt, plus VAT, while in recent months the price on international stock exchanges has reached a price of 250 euros per megawatt due to the gas and energy crisis across the European continent.
The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) is not prepared to suffer losses, because it procures part of the imported electricity, due to which it gave a cap to CAP for the next year of 183 euros per megawatt, which CAP can not stand, reported Radio Television of Montenegro.
Uniprom, which became the owner of KAP in August after the bankruptcy, confirmed for "Vijesti" that it will not be able to work with the new electricity prices and that in those conditions it will close the company, and 500 people will lose their jobs.
