The G7 summit and the five developing countries will work together to mitigate climate change
The leaders of the G7 member states and the five leading developing countries announced today that they will work together to mitigate climate change, while ensuring energy security for citizens.
In a joint statement ce states that it is necessary to ce accelerate a "clean and fair energy transition" that will end the use of fossil fuels without drastically increasing unemployment.
The leaders cited last year's agreement by several developed countries to help South Africa stop using coal and increase its use of renewable energy sources.
In progress ce talks with other developing countries on a similar partnership.
The leaders also supported the idea of establishing a global "climate club", for which ce advocated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. It is envisaged that the member states of the club would accept ambitious goals to reduce pollution, and in return would be exempt from trade tariffs related to climate change.
