Russia has said it will respond to an increase in US troops in Europe
Russian authorities today threatened to respond with measures to the announced increase in the number of US troops in Europe.
"What is happening now (the accumulation of NATO forces in Eastern Europe) will always prompt compensatory measures on our part," said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"We will not close our eyes to this move." We have the opportunities and resources to do that. "Security will be 100 percent guaranteed," Ryabkov said.
Last year, Moscow offered Washington talks on mutual security guarantees to avoid an escalation scenario, Ryabkov said.
Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden said at a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg that the United States wanted to further expand its military presence in Europe as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine.
