IMF urges El Salvador to abolish Bitcoin as legal tender

The IMF called on El Salvador to change course and stop using it Bitcoin as a legal tender, citing the "great risks" of cryptocurrency.

The bank "called on the authorities to reduce the scope of the Bitcoin law by removing Bitcoin's status as a legal tender," the International Monetary Fund said in a statement.

In September, El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt digital money, making it legal to use in all transactions, including the US dollar.
