Green but still dry

In 2017, in the center of Skopje, the "City Tree" installation was installed, which is a biological air filter. Today, two years later, the eco tree looks desperate - neglected and withered. In fact, the tree was planted in the spring, and did not survive the first summer.

The green billboard "City Tree" is an innovative vertical structure of moss, which has the same effect as 275 trees and compensates for the pollution of 417 cars per year, so it is surprising why the authorities do not take care of it, given the fact that Skopje very often is among the most polluted cities in the world. The City of Skopje is responsible for maintaining the billboard, through its public enterprise "Parks and Greenery".

- Due to the special conditions required for the survival of the installation of moss, ie the system and the valves in the system, in the period from June to August 2017, due to the way the installation is designed to be filled with water through a tank once a week, in The period when the only tank at the disposal of PE "Parks and Greenery" was defective and in combination with the heat wave that was in that period in less than a month, the plants - the mosses dried up - said the City of Skopje.

From there they add that the plants in the installation itself have not been replaced since September 2017.

The first two installations of "City Tree" are provided with support from the German Embassy in Macedonia and donations from Macedonian and foreign companies and are worth 25.000 euros.
