Germany blocks Rosatom equipment for nuclear plants in Turkey and Hungary
The state corporation "Rosatom" has encountered problems in the procurement of equipment from Germany for the nuclear power plants under construction in Turkey and Hungary, reports "Kommersant", reports Segabgnjus.
Germany's Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) has not issued all necessary permits to Germany's Siemens Energy to supply an integrated switchgear unit (KRUE) for the Akuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. In particular, BAFA did not grant permission to export the documentation.
The German regulator is concerned that the equipment could be imported into Russia via Turkey, even though it was manufactured for a specific facility, the sources said.
In this direction, the Turkish authorities are negotiating with the German government about the conditions under which the delivery will be possible. BAFA also refused to issue a license to Siemens Energy to supply a process control system for the Pax-2 nuclear power plant that Rosatom is building in Hungary.
At the same time, the French Framatom participated in the deal, which received permission from the French government. The EU has not yet introduced sanctions against Russian nuclear power. This intention has already met with resistance from Bulgaria and Hungary.
President Radev said last week in Brussels that Bulgaria will veto if such a decision is made, because the Bulgarian nuclear industry will suffer. The latter is not indisputable, as nuclear experts have already stated that Bulgaria can do without Russian nuclear fuel.
