Erdogan warned Joe Biden about the consequences of the conflict between Israel and Hamas
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today warned his American counterpart Joe Biden about the "negative regional and global consequences" of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.
It was the first conversation between the two leaders since October 7 and the start of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which followed a Hamas attack on Israeli territory.
"President Erdogan said that the strengthening and continuation of Israeli attacks could have negative regional and global consequences," the Turkish presidency said after their phone conversation.
Erdogan said the withdrawal of unconditional US support for Israel could guarantee a quicker ceasefire, the statement said.
The Turkish president added that the US has a "historical responsibility to ensure lasting peace in the region as soon as possible."
