Duda criticizes the reforms in the Polish media: It is anarchy!
The new Polish government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is implementing reforms in the state media that are akin to "anarchy", President Andrzej Duda said today.
Tensions have risen between Duda and Tusk's new pro-EU government, which on Wednesday shut down the public news channel and fired state media executives "in an effort to restore impartiality," according to news agencies.
State media, including the TVP Info channel, were accused of becoming vehicles for nationalist propaganda of the Pravo i Pravda (PiS) party, of which Duda was an ally, during the previous government.
The president of Poland told the private radio station Zet that this sudden change is a violation of the Constitution, because, as he claims, certain parliamentary procedures were skipped.
"These actions are completely illegal. This is anarchy," Duda emphasized.
In response to the president's appeal, Tusk added that his government's activities are aimed at "restoring legal order and general decency in public life."
