Why does Pendarovski run his throat into strawberries ?!

The agreement between President Stevo Pendarovski and opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski that the participants in the April 27 events in Parliament are not terrorists is an essentially new element of the contemporary Macedonian political scene. Friday's meeting, agreed on by that agreement between these two top Macedonian politicians, is a dramatic shift in the current "schedule" of political factors in Macedonia.

In the case of Mickoski, there is nothing new in that position: he has been repeating for years that the beating of MPs and endangering the physical security of a number of other people present there (including numerous journalists) is literally deserved, because the decision of the then A new parliamentary majority to form a government was a provocation for those who stormed and then went wild in the Parliament - among them himself, in time to leave before the beginning of the chaos there. His support for those violence, in clumsily packed mild distances from the bloodiest moments in that drama, he continuously expresses on the public stage from 2017 until today.

In Pendarovski's case, the situation is more complicated: his explicit statement in support of the opposition's position met with, to put it mildly, astonishment and even confused public silence, because unlike the "ease" with which Mickoski constantly defends the most radical nationalist and chauvinist forces in his party, it is impossible for Pendarovski not to understand the political implications of announcing his position on this issue.

Their meeting on Friday will apparently focus on how to review the April 27th trial. There are already verdicts in it, and the Prosecutor's Office is working to prove the involvement of the inspirers, organizers and "commanders" of this act of terrorism, with already clearly proven intentions for liquidations in the parliament hall. It is simply unbelievable, after several years spent on the independence of the judicial system in the country precisely from political influences - which is the focus of the most essential reforms insisted on by the EU and NATO - that the President and the opposition leader exert such flagrant, undisguised pressure on the judiciary. for ongoing processes.

Consequently, maybe Pendarovski is preparing to use his constitutional presidential right to pardon the convicts and those who will eventually be, so he intends to use the meeting with Mickoski as a kind of "introduction" to such an idea? In Macedonia, many do not agree with the verdict on terrorism, but far fewer are those who do not have civil trauma from the similar procedure (not only politically controversial, but also illegal) of his predecessor Gjorge Ivanov in 2016, which still causes legal and political consequences. , and is unequivocally related to the brutal parliamentary events in April, next, 2017.

Maybe it is a move by which Pendarovski thinks that the process of "national reconciliation" in the politically divided Macedonia will be encouraged, a chance for a "new beginning", so he believes that such a politically risky, but "state" mission suits him?

If that is the intention of the president, we are entering a new political "vertigo" with unforeseeable domestic and international consequences for the country. The nation should not come out more (and differently) divided after such an initiative of Pendarovski, in cooperation with Mickoski… At the moment we can not even perceive the reaction of other, non-Macedonian communities in the country, not to mention the incentive that would received the most radical elements, ready for future violence, which really exist and operate in Macedonia.

Additionally, since nothing should be seen in politics outside the wider context, Pendarovski's behavior comes at a delicate moment for SDSM and Zaev, where old and new party kitchens were activated before the congress to reduce the party power of the current ruling party. Friday's meeting between Pendarovski and Mickoski will surely reflect on speculation about who is on the list of those who would gladly see both Zaev and SDSM weakened before the local elections this year, with pressure for early parliamentary elections as soon as possible, after which Zaev would went "in history".

Finally, maybe the Pendarovski-Mickoski meeting is intended for a cunning "trade" over the opposition's support for the compromise that will have to be reached with Bulgaria? Although it is unbelievable that such a compromise can - and should - be reached by breaking the fragile, barely straightforward "backbone" of the Macedonian judiciary through such an incredible political trampling on the verdicts in one of the most complicated court cases in the last 30 years.

However, it seems that on Friday Mickoski gets a great opportunity to advance his positions both in his own party and on the wider political scene. He will be the star of the event.

Pendarovski, on the other hand, will get the first opportunity for a number of additional explanations (perhaps until the end of his presidential term) about what the "writer" actually wanted to say in the field planted with strawberries…
