Do you know why cats have different eye colors?
All cats are born with blue eyes, and already from the seventh to the twelfth week of their development, they get the final eye color.
But what is fascinating is that their eyes can be of different colors. This phenomenon is known under the term heterochromia, and besides cats it also occurs in other animals and humans.
Cats that have heterochromia usually have white fur or have fur with a white pattern. And when we talk about their eyes, the combinations are endless, from shades of brown, to green and blue.
In cats, eye color is determined by the pigment melanin, just like in humans. During the development period of cats, the pigment is activated in the eyes and thus determines their color.
The exception is when the pigment will not penetrate to one of the eyes, creating fantastic color combinations.
