Gold and coffee break records, the price of lithium falls
Gold and coffee prices are breaking records, and the price of lithium is falling. According to IMF data, the prices of primary products in August decreased by 2,3 percent compared to July 2024, writes the internet portal Makroekonomija.org.
At the same time, raw materials in August were 0,9 percent more expensive than in August 2023. Compared to the record price level, they are 32,8 percent lower. In August, the global prices of agricultural products decreased by 2,1 percent compared to the previous month, but compared to the same month last year they were higher by 1,9 percent.
Metals have become more expensive since August 2023 by 12,3 percent, while energy has become cheaper by five percent. If we compare August prices with a record level, agricultural products became cheaper by 18 percent, metals by 6,3 percent, and energy by as much as 52,5 percent.
As in the previous few months, new record prices for coffee and gold were reached in August. A fine ounce of gold on the London Stock Exchange reached $2.468. On an annual level, this is an increase in the price of gold by 28 percent, and of coffee by as much as 72 percent.
Interestingly, the price of lithium has continued to fall. Lithium became cheaper by 6,1 percent compared to July 2024, and even by 56,8 percent compared to August 2023.
