Local authorities in Shanghai are working to reopen and enable the resumption of normal life from June 1, after cases of coronavirus infection outside quarantine conditions were suppressed in 15 of the 16 city districts.

Deputy Mayor Zong Ming presented to the media the schedule of activities for returning to normal, after six weeks of closure.

Authorities in Shanghai said the epidemic in the city was under control, but also stressed that the goal was to prevent recurrences of the infection so that by the 21st of this month many of the restrictions remain in place.

According to Chinese policy, "zero tolerance for Covid-19", a necessary precondition for returning life to normal, is the complete elimination of cases outside the quarantined areas.

The city plans to gradually increase domestic flights and railway services, and from today, supermarkets, shops and pharmacies will reopen.

The Shanghai ban, along with other measures to deal with Covid-19 in many other cities, has already begun to pose a threat to China's economy and disrupt global supply chains.
