Who is Amanda Bynes?

In the 2000s, Amanda Bynes was the biggest teen star and everyone predicted a glittering career for her. Even before she turned 18, the actress had won numerous film awards, had her own show and was a part of some of the most popular film projects of that period.

But public pressure and mental health issues took their toll – after many run-ins with the law and addictions, Amanda's parents were granted legal custody of their daughter, meaning they have control over her life in hopes of helping her.

Amanda was born in 1986, and started her career in childhood, first shooting commercials. Soon her talent was noticed, so the actress began to appear in television series.

She also got her own television show - The Amanda Show - and the public was in love with her smile and the positive energy that radiated from her.

Problems with the law

Amanda has appeared in several popular films including Hairspray, She's the Man and Easy A.

She herself says that the performance in the last film, Easy A, made her give up her acting career. Reportedly, she was completely disappointed with herself and was convinced that she should not appear in a film anymore.

Just two years later, in 2012, Amanda's problems and conflicts with the law begin.

In a span of just 2-3 years, Amanda was arrested for drug possession, several self-inflicted traffic accidents, and driving without a license.

During this period, Amanda began to worry fans with her tweets, which were often full of hate towards stars like Rihanna and Drake.

In most cases, Amanda deleted the tweets – something that led the public to think that the actress had serious mental health issues.

Amanda even accused her father of abusing her as a child, only to later delete the tweet explaining that her father "didn't do anything, but she blamed him because she had a chip put in her brain on his orders."

Depression, addictions and nine years in custody

The actress herself stated that she had problems with depression and that she was addicted to Adderall - a drug commonly used to treat ADHD.

In order to get the drug, Amanda admitted that she faked her symptoms when she saw a psychiatrist, and took the drug so often that she often forgot her lines while filming scenes.

In 2013, the actress was caught setting a fire in the neighborhood where she grew up in California. After this, Amanda was committed to a mental institution where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

It was then that her parents first tried to get legal custody of her, hoping to help her, but to no avail. After a second attempt at legal guardianship in 2014, they succeeded, but the court ruled that this would only be temporary.

When it became clear that Amanda's situation was not improving, the guardianship was extended to seven years.

This probably helped Amanda, because during that time she enrolled in fashion design at a university in California and it seemed that luck was smiling on her again.

This period Amanda made a big change with her appearance. The actress tattooed a heart on her face, pierced her nose and dyed her hair black.

In 2020, the actress shared that she got engaged to her boyfriend Paul Michael. Bynes and her partner Paul, who is a law student, called off their engagement in July 2022, but reportedly rekindled their relationship in August of that year. They are rumored to be living together at Bynes' home in Los Angeles.

They met at the end of 2019, at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and got engaged a few months later, on Valentine's Day 2020. On April 28, 2020, Bynes called the police after Michael allegedly started using opiates again and accused him of vandalizing his mother's home, viewing pornography and stopping his prescription drugs.
