That is exactly what happened to the Serbian singer Zeljko Samardzic who was not aware for a long time that he has Hashimoto's syndrome.
- It is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland that creates occasional problems - the singer stated for "Objektiv". "Since I started regular therapy, everything was fine, I take one pill every morning and that's it."
"Women mostly get that disease, but here it's happened to me and I deal with it as I know and can. "I later found out that many of my friends have Hashimoto's syndrome, and I have had it for a long time without even knowing it," the singer revealed.
This condition occurs when the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, a small gland in the neck that lies beneath the Adam's apple. It produces hormones important for many functions in the body. A person suffering from Hashimoto's syndrome usually gets fat, suffers from severe fatigue, and has hair and skin changes because they become extremely dry. The patient has problems with concentration, and the most pronounced symptom is depression.
Fortunately, Hashimoto is easily treated, but if the patient does not receive therapy, various heart diseases and even heart failure are possible.
