An earthquake with an intensity of 5,8 on the Richter scale hit China
An earthquake with an intensity of 5,8 degrees according to the Richter scale hit southern Xinjiang in China today, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center announced.
The official Chinese news agency Xinhua reports that no one was injured in the earthquake and no significant material damage was caused.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 33 kilometers at 7:49 a.m. local time, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said.
The China Earthquake Monitoring Center recorded the quake at a preliminary magnitude of 6,1 on the Richter scale, while the US Geological Survey reported the quake at 5,7.
State broadcaster CTV showed footage showing people leaving the airport hall and parts of the ceiling swaying as the ground shook. No disruptions to the electricity grid, nor to the oil and gas production and transportation network were observed
