A magnitude 6,8 earthquake has struck northern and northeastern Japan

An earthquake that, according to preliminary measurements, had a magnitude of 6,8 on the Richter scale hit the northern and northeastern parts of Japan today. So far, authorities have not issued a tsunami warning.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of about 490 kilometers below the surface of the sea. There were no reports of casualties or property damage.

An earthquake with an intensity of 6,5 degrees according to the Richter scale was also registered today in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk, east of the coast of the Russian island of Sakhalin.
