Zelensky claims that a Western country donated an anti-aircraft system that is not working
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated Kiev's demand for more modern weapons, pointing out that some elements supplied by Western countries did not work.
During this week's trip to border and frontline regions, Zelenskiy was accompanied by reporters from The Associated Press, with Zelenskiy talking about the weapons promised versus those received.
- We have great decisions about the Patriot systems, but we don't have them in reality, he said, referring to the promised air defense system from the United States.
Zelensky said Ukraine needs 20 batteries of the Patriot system to protect against Russian missiles, but that "even that may not be enough" because no country in the world has been attacked with so many ballistic missiles.
Zelensky added that a European nation sent an air defense system to Ukraine, but it didn't work and they "had to change it over and over again." He did not specify the state.
Zelensky also repeated his constant request for fighter jets. He complained that Ukraine "still has nothing when it comes to modern fighter jets."
Poland and Slovakia have decided to give Ukraine Soviet-era fighter jets, but no Western country has so far agreed to provide modern warplanes, amid concerns it could escalate the conflict and training challenges.
