Zelensky spoke with Merkel and Charles Michel about the situation on the border with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had separate telephone conversations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Council President Charles Michel on the security situation on the border with Russia.
Merkel and Zelensky agreed to support the international community, as well as to maintain sanctions to limit threats from Russia, according to a statement from the Ukrainian presidency.
The parties stressed the importance of continuing efforts in the Normandy format, it added.
Earlier on Thursday, Merkel warned Russia against deploying an excessive military force near the border with Ukraine.
At a press conference with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, the outgoing German Chancellor said that the European Union member states were united and would do everything possible to prevent further provocations.
In a conversation with Zelensky, Charles Michel shared the content of his dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
Michel said that establishing contact between the participating countries of the EU could help alleviate the crisis, Ukraine said in a statement.
Michelle wrote on Twitter that she had expressed to Zelensky the EU's full support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"Europe's security is possible only with a secure Ukraine," he added.

Several media outlets have reported that the US administration has officially warned its European allies that Russia may be planning a new invasion of Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has denied the allegations.
"We are constantly declaring at various levels that Russia has no intention of attacking anyone and has no aggressive plans," Peskov told a briefing in Moscow.
