Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tonight announced the introduction of sanctions in response to the actions of the current Georgian Government in recent days, reports Kyiv Independent.

In his regular evening address to his compatriots, Zelensky condemned the behavior of the Georgian Government, accusing it of "pushing the country into obvious dependence on Russia" and of opposing the interests of its people, the website "European Justice" reported.

"What is happening in Georgia is not only a challenge for one nation or for our region. The current Georgian Government is pushing the country into clear dependence on Russia. It is shameful to see the steps they are taking against their own people", he said in the address, transmitted on his behalf to H.

"When Moscow praises the Georgian authorities, it leaves no doubt as to who they are really serving in Tbilisi - and it is certainly not the people of Georgia," he said.

"We are preparing a legal response and working with the Europeans and other partners on specific activities. I instructed the competent authorities to prepare appropriate decisions on sanctions," said the Ukrainian president.

There have been protests in Georgia for almost a week after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that the negotiations for joining the European Union until 2028 are being postponed.

The Baltic states have already announced sanctions against Georgian officials involved in the violent crackdown on protests, including former Prime Minister Bidzin Ivanishvili.
