Zelensky will demand the deployment of Western armies in Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he is open to the possibility of deploying Western armies in Ukraine, in order to guarantee the country's security and end the almost three-year war with Russia.
In a post on "Telegram", Zelensky wrote that the deployment of foreign troops would be a step on the way to Ukraine's membership in NATO. He added that beforehand it is necessary to clearly determine when Ukraine will become a member of the EU and NATO.
Diplomatic efforts to end Europe's biggest conflict since World War II face complex challenges, particularly because of Russia's military advantage on the ground. Zelensky noted that he will soon talk to US President Joe Biden about this issue, since his mandate is still ongoing.
Ukraine's accession to NATO has been controversial since Russia launched an invasion in February 2022. At the summit in Washington this year, it was confirmed that Ukraine is "on the path of no return" to membership, but without a specific invitation to negotiations.
