Zelensky "froze" Ukrainian oligarchs, banned Poroshenko from using the internet and appearing on television

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on February 13 to impose indefinite sanctions on several senior politicians, oligarchs and businessmen, the press service of the Ukrainian government reported. Kyiv Independent.

Sanctions were imposed against oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky, billionaire Konstantin Zhevago, former co-owner of Privatbank Gennady Boholyubov, the fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and Viktor Medvedchuk, a former pro-Russian MP accused of treason.

The sanctions freeze all assets held by the targeted individuals in Ukraine and block them from conducting financial transactions, among other restrictions. The decree states that the measures are indefinite.

The sanctions prohibit Poroshenko, who was president from 2014 to 2019, from leaving Ukraine and disposing of his property. This is a significant escalation of internal political tensions in the country, three years after the start of the Russian invasion.

Additionally, he is prohibited from appearing on television and using the internet.

"We are defending our country and restoring justice: all those who threatened the national security of Ukraine and helped the enemy will be held accountable," Zelensky said ahead of the official announcement of the sanctions.
