Zelensky demands an answer from Biden: "Yes" or "no" to Ukraine's entry into NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he wanted a clear "yes" or "no" response from US President Joe Biden to Ukraine's approval of the NATO Membership Action Plan.
In a joint interview with several Western media outlets, Zelensky said he had received assurances that Biden would not use Ukraine as a bargaining chip at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week.
- If we talk about NATO and MAP, I would really like to get (from Biden) details - yes or no, said Zelensky, referring to the Membership Action Plan given to candidate countries, a status Ukraine has long sought.
- We need to get clear dates and the likelihood of this option for Ukraine, added Zelenski.
He said Ukraine had done everything necessary to obtain a plan for NATO membership, which Kiev believed was a key means of deterring Russia, but Moscow vehemently opposed such plans.
He also called for economic support from the United States and called on the International Monetary Fund to address Ukraine's problems before making "unjust" reform demands.
