The green agenda is the new "bomb" of DUI

From rounding off the ethnic agenda and turning to civic issues, as assessed by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, through a "bold decision" as experts call it, to opposition comments "DUI hypocrisy" and "defocusing for the public", the reactions vary with such amplitude. in the political structures and the professional public after the announcement of the "Green Agenda", which the leader of DUI, Ali Ahmeti, promoted on Saturday, in the Skopje City Park, on the occasion of the 19th party birthday.

Five months before the local elections, Ahmeti bombastically announced the party's new platform, with the message that it was time to accept policies for a green, developed and secure future. This event was preceded by a few days of PR warm-up, with a surprise announcement, which even led to various speculations that turned out to be wrong. Yesterday was released the first video of the series of projects for renewable energy and use of solar energy, a project that is already being implemented in TPP Oslomej, and REK Bitola is in the process of transformation.

Quality of life in focus

- It is time for DUI to fully focus on life, because the Ohrid Agreement, NATO integration, equitable representation have been fulfilled, schools, hospitals, theaters have been built. We are starting a new way of conducting policy and direct action, beyond ethnic rights, development and goals of integration, environmental justice policy, quality of life. Today, DUI as a whole accepts the green agenda as part of the European green efforts and adds it to the program pillars as a priority. We focus entirely on quality of life, living conditions, development, quality education and health, non-selective justice, digitalisation, social policies, infrastructure, economics and the environment. The time has come to open the door and accept these policies for a green, safe, developed and healthy future - said Ahmeti.

"Young people are looking for living conditions like their peers in the west, jobs as well as a modern environment," Ahmeti said.

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev positively assessed the turn of his coalition partners from DUI towards the green agenda.

- I am glad that the largest party from the Albanian bloc is rounding off the ethnic agenda and turning to civic issues. "What the citizens expect from the ruling parties is improvement of the situation in the economy, in the infrastructure, in the environment - said Zaev.

The intention of the integratives to deal with environmental problems in the country in the future met with public reactions. Political scientist Ismet Ramadani welcomed the "green" agenda of DUI and told "Free Press" that the transformation of DUI into a party that will deal with completely different life problems of the citizens is a bold decision.

- DUI is catching up with the European trend "Green Europe". Ahmeti seems to have felt the moment in time, that the citizens no longer like the slogans with nationalism, but seek to improve their standard of living and the environment in which they live. I think that with this concept DUI outsmarted the opposition. In a situation like this, I think they will find themselves confused and it will be difficult for them to find an alternative that will be accepted by the voters. With this concept, DUI gains a lot in the international community - says Ramadani.

According to the only green party in Macedonia, DOM, if DUI only declaratively stands, it will not mean anything, because the green ideology should be translated into deeds.

- The biggest remarks of the citizens and non-governmental organizations about the environment were addressed to DUI, because for years they have been managing key institutions responsible for the environment. The dilemma remains whether the green agenda of DUI is covered as a green party, or only as part of the environmental aspect - protection of the environment and climate. "Green values and ideology do not only mean concern for the environment and climate, but green parties are also important for human rights and freedoms, equality of women, LGBT - said the president of DOM, Maja Moracanin.

The opposition claims that DUI has been responsible for the environment for 16 years

According to the Alliance and Alternative, the "Green Agenda" is the next hypocrisy of DUI.

- DUI has given up the status of the NLA, the equality of Albanians, justice, the Albanian Prime Minister and everything they promised and, instead of withdrawing, DUI is disguised as a green European party. Ramiz Merko cuts down trees every day, usurps green space, and Ali Ahmeti talks about the environment. Today Tetovo has no drinking water, there is polluted air, and Ahmeti talks about quality of life. Today, Chair has urban chaos, without water supply and sewerage, and Ahmeti talks about ecology. The municipality of Lipkovo lives next to the dam, but it is without water, and Ahmeti talks about water and greenery - said the party spokesman Flakron Bexheti.

Regarding the rebranding of DUI from blue to green and the agenda, VMRO-DPMNE says that the only green that sees some connotation regarding the green color between SDSM and DUI, is the green color of the euro. According to MP Igor Janushev, there is no logic for DUI to talk about a green agenda after Ahmeti's staff has been at the head of the Ministry of Environment for 16 years.

- That is the best example of how to capture the point when someone announces something like that, which is a good defocus for the public when coming out with such a topic. "What we have seen in the last few years, besides the interest in euros, money, crime and corruption, the only green led by this Government are the lies they have placed on this topic in terms of environmental protection and ecology," Janushev said.
