A group of Italian Army health workers has arrived in Slovenia to help Slovenian counterparts treat patients with covid-19, the Slovenian Defense Ministry has confirmed.

It is about 10 anesthesiologists and ten nurses and technicians who will join the Slovenian military ambulance that helps the civil sector in the hospitals in Ljubljana, Celje, Maribor and Novo Mesto. writes Indeks.hr.

Slovenia is currently in a more difficult situation than Italy

The Minister of Health Janez Poklokar and the Minister of Defense Matej Tonin will be welcomed at a ceremony in the Kranj barracks in the afternoon, the Slovenian government announced.

Tonin agreed on this form of aid for Slovenia, which is in a more difficult epidemiological situation than neighboring Italy, during a working visit to Rome two weeks ago at a meeting with Italian counterpart Lorenzo Guerini, when it was announced that 30 members of the Italian army would arrived in Slovenia.

Slight decline

The fourth wave of the epidemic in Slovenia has been in slight decline for two weeks now.

In the last 24 hours, 116 new infections have been confirmed, with 18 deaths, but the overcrowding of the hospital system is still high. Normalization of the hospital system is expected in a month.

Epidemiologists from the government's scientific council say it is too early to think about mitigation due to the small drop in new infections and other indicators, and warn that after last year's easing of Christmas and New Year measures, the epidemiological picture has deteriorated again.
