The Amsterdam Court of Appeals today ruled to return to Ukraine a collection of archeological objects that Crimea lent to a museum in Amsterdam shortly before Russia annexed it in 2014.
"The Amsterdam Court of Appeals has ordered the Allard Pearson Museum to hand over the Crimean treasure to the Ukrainian state," the judges said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the "long-awaited victory" following a Dutch court ruling.
The placement of bronze swords, gold helmets and other antiques turned into a diplomatic dispute as the exhibits arrived from Crimea while it was part of Ukraine.
After Russia annexed Crimea, both Ukraine and Russia sought items from the "Crimea - Gold and the Secrets of the Black Sea" exhibition.
