The last reactor at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been closed. Now all the reactors are in a state of cold shutdown, and during the procedure the radioactivity did not increase, the administration of Zaporozhye announced on Telegram.

Fighting is still going on in the region of Zaporozhye, and the power plant was intensively mined and exposed to fire several times. The largest nuclear power plant in Europe, with a capacity of almost six gigawatts, has been under the control of Russia since February 2022, and since September it has been closed due to the danger of causing a nuclear accident.

One of the units operated several times in a hot state, which means that the reactor does not produce electricity, but steam that is used for the needs of the power plant. The cold state is considered the safest because the blocks are brought down to low pressure and cooled by water.
