More than 10kg of cocaine seized in Durres, hidden in banana containers

A new quantity of cocaine was found and seized in the largest Albanian port of Durres, in a container with bananas ordered for the company "Alba Exotic Fruit" from Tirana.

The police informed that a detailed control was carried out in two of the containers loaded with bananas, which arrived from Ecuador, on behalf of the mentioned company.

"As a result of the detailed control, in the last part, on the lids of the refrigeration engines in both containers, a quantity of 10 kilograms and 185 grams of suspicious narcotic substance cocaine was found and seized," the police announced.

It added that this was the next amount of cocaine found by the authorities in this port and the fifth in a row in containers for the mentioned company.

Earlier, during the control of a container of bananas, also loaded in Ecuador, on July 13th, 23rd and 30th and September 7th, a total of 34 kilograms of cocaine were found, all orders of the company "Alba Exotic Fruit", whose owner is in escape and the company manager is in custody.

A quantity of 7 kilograms of cocaine was discovered on August 7 in a container loaded with seafood also in Ecuador, on behalf of the company "Fish Co Tirana". On June 18, 324 kilograms of cocaine were seized in an iron-laden truck bound for Italy, driven by N.A. Macedonian citizen.

Since March, according to police sources, more than 1,5 tons of cocaine have been seized in this port alone.
