The leader of the British right-wing Reform Party, Nigel Farage, said today that the West provoked the war in Ukraine by expanding the European Union and NATO to the east.

"Of course (Russian President Vladimir) Putin is to blame for the war. "But because of the enlargement of the EU and NATO, he could tell the Russians that the West is threatening again," Farage said in an interview with the BBC.

When asked about his controversial statement in 2014 that Vladimir Putin was the world leader he most admired, Farage explained that he did not like Putin as a person, but admired him as a political figure because he had managed to take control of the running of Russia.
