It is unlikely that the law will be passed, after the Albanian partner in the government, the Vredi coalition, issued an ultimatum that the rights of the defenders will be improved only if a law for the disabled and the families of the dead members of the NLA is also adopted. Doughty: I have no intention of calling the committee

The law on defenders, proposed by the deputy Slavjanka Petrovska from SDSM, caused an earthquake in the Parliament, violent reactions of the parties, but also threats of inter-ethnic tensions. Doughty held a meeting with the Social Policy Committee, but only on the pension law, and decided not to discuss the law on veterans.

- The commission that I lead deals with laws that help and improve the standard of citizens, not laws that select and discriminate. I will not put this law on the agenda, at least as long as I am the president of the Commission, that is, as long as it is such and does not provide for a solution to the status and rights of NLA fighters and disabled people - said Doughty for "Sloboden Pechat".

Although we asked, we did not receive an answer from the President of the Assembly Gashi if and when he will schedule the Commission that should discuss the promotion of the rights of defenders, a right that the new parliamentary Rules of Procedure allows him.

The new parliamentary Rules of Procedure in article 126 paragraph 3 provides:

"If the president of the working body does not call a session when he is obliged to do so or if the working body does not have a president, the session is called by the president of the Assembly and the session is chaired by the member of the working body that will be determined by the president of the Assembly until the end of the session."

The law on defenders has divided the parties both ethnically and politically. On the one hand, SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE voted for the need to adopt it against Vredi and DUI who are against it and demand a law on the status and rights for former members of the ONA. On the other hand, there followed an avalanche of accusations between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM on the one hand and between Vredi and DUI on the other hand, that the legal solution is for raising inter-ethnic tensions.

The Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is categorical that the defenders will always have the support of VMRO-DPMNE and accused SDSM of raising inter-ethnic tensions.

- The defenders had, have and will have my unequivocal support. This law, which was on the agenda yesterday, was submitted by MP Slavjanka Petrovska, that is, by SDSM, and what is interesting is that, when the need to carry the agenda was voted, SDSM left the session. The MP herself and SDSM are not submitting the law because they think well of the defenders, but are submitting it to create ethnic tensions and intolerance again, because it is the map on which they and other opposition parties, regardless of whether they are from the Macedonian or Albanian bloc, will play in the following period. My advice to citizens is not to fall for this, because the situation is stable. This will be their policy because they do not know how to raise the economy, but they are masters of creating such tensions. And that will happen during this period, but we are a country and we will defend the citizens and the security of Macedonia - said Mickoski

The prime minister did not answer how he will overcome the situation with the government partner who is adamant that there will be no law for defenders if there is no law for members of the NLA and whether this will affect the government coalition.

- Recica and Bihaćska had the opportunity to discuss these topics for seven years. I have told you what the purpose is and I say again that this is the way they will work. They can't mobilize people in any other way, because millionaires come out of swindlers who entered politics, millionaires come out of commanders - said Mickoski.

Petrovska rhetorically in a statement for "Sloboden Pechat" he asked Mickoski - does the law bother him or her.

– The draft law does not create tensions, but the so-called politicians who do not know what real politics is. As Minister of Defense, I fought for the compensation of four members of the security forces, for which the SDSM Government made a decision. The proposed law was submitted on July 1, 2024, so the question Mitkoski should ask his coalition partner Gashi is why he hid it in a drawer until now and why he put it on the agenda just yesterday - asks Petrovska.

The leader of SDSM Venko Filipce said the law is meant to address the real needs of people with disabilities and survivors, as well as families of fallen veterans. - We are ready to discuss all aspects if fellow MPs consider that there is such a thing. We can open a debate at a committee hearing or between parliamentary groups, to see if some additional step needs to be taken, to meet the demands of another category or group of citizens - said the SDSM leader.

Vredi said that they will not stand idly by while the opposition tries to ignite the spark of inter-ethnic divisions to save themselves from their political corruption. - The situation is alarming and do not add gasoline to the fire now that the world and the region are in an unstable state and we are threatened with a third world war. This is also the result of the forces that want to destabilize the region in order to worsen inter-ethnic relations - said Azizi.

And the government partner Arben Taravari is against the law on defenders. According to him, this issue is worrisome and as a government partner they will sit down and discuss.

- As a partner, we must sit down and talk, if there is a solution, it should be mutual, that is, there should be a solution for both parties. We will make efforts to prevent it and we will talk as partners - Taravari told Alsat TV.

The coordinator of the European front Blerim Bexheti accused Vredi and said that they should not have allowed the law to be put on the agenda, and DUI replied that Vredi are hostages of VMRO-DPMNE.

– The defeated deputies of Vredi initially declared that they were against and would prevent the adoption of the law on defenders, they left the session, and after a phone call from their owners from VMRO, they returned with folded tails and secured a quorum for the adoption of the agenda so the law on defenders. VMRO-DPMNE hostages are worth it. The law on special rights of the security forces proposes the equalization of the sum that should be received by the family members of the fallen members of the security forces and the equalization of the compensation for mental pain suffered in the period from 2000 to the present day.
