US plans to isolate Russia in the world have failed, which explains Washington's attempts to label Russia as a state "sponsor of terrorism" through other countries, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. Marija Zakharova.

"They are using others to materialize their idea to add Russia to this list. In fact, the Baltic countries have already expressed their opinion on this topic," she said in an interview with the Russia-1 television channel.

She emphasized that the West has failed to isolate Russia, just as it has failed to destroy Russian culture and history. "It didn't happen." The world ignored everything Washington said. The West isolated itself from our country and then started plan B: to cause damage wherever possible and mainly through mediation," she said, adding that Washington is doing it through those countries that have recently joined the European Union.

According to her, the governments of Eastern European countries are not "an elite that is responsible for their steps" and Washington is taking advantage of that. She reminded that Moscow clearly explained to Washington what consequences this step could have, ie. involvement of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.

"On Thursday, the Latvian parliament adopted a statement recognizing Russian actions in Ukraine as terrorism and declaring Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. In addition, Latvian representatives called on the EU countries to stop issuing entry visas for Russian citizens," she claims.

Commenting on the move, Zakharova said Latvia's steps are rooted in xenophobia and have no basis in reality. Ukraine also called on the US to add Russia to the list of state sponsors of terrorism. The same calls were heard from a number of US lawmakers.
