The losses of the largest gas importer in Germany exceeded 12 billion euros in six months
The company "Uniper", which is the largest importer of gas in Germany, recorded losses in the first half of this year in the amount of more than 12 billion euros, half of which are the result of problems in the supply of gas from Russia.
Approximately 6,5 billion euros of those funds are the result of interruptions in gas supplies from Russia as a result of the war in Ukraine, the company announced today.
The statistics show that 2,7 billion euros of the losses are the result of the cancellation of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, a huge infrastructure undertaking that was halted a few days after the start of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
"For the coming year 2023, we expect an improvement, and from 2024 even to cancel the losses, said the financial adviser of "Uniper" Tina Tuomela.
"Uniper" is trying to deal with the unfavorable situation caused by the fact that the company is forced to provide gas at a higher price, after the reduction of deliveries from Russia. The company faces a liquidity problem because it cannot fully pass the price difference on to consumers.
