Zaev: The government has met the needs of the municipalities that have been sinking in debt for many years

The government met the municipalities that have been sinking in debt for many years, by providing 50 million euros in grants, which allowed them to commit to plans for development of local self-government, said tonight in Skopje Prime Minister and SDSM leader Zoran Zaev at a public forum organized by the party under the motto "The best for our municipality".

- For many years the municipalities were sinking in debt, the new mayors were wasting their energy to find a way to repay the debts. We decided to meet them and as a Government we provided 50 million euros, funds for the municipalities. Each municipality received grants to cover 51% of the reported debts. It greatly facilitated the work of the mayors and they committed themselves to projects and plans for the development of local governments, said Zaev.

He stressed that SDSM has the honor and responsibility to lead the central government for four years, but also the local administrations in 56 municipalities and the city of Skopje.

- The Government's support to the local self-government units, including of course the City of Skopje, is continuous and efficient, aimed at development, ecology, cleaner living environment, cleaner air, said Zaev.

He pointed out that this year the project for construction and rehabilitation of local roads and streets in the municipalities with a total length of 450 km is being implemented. Additionally, he stressed, with 70 million euros, funds from the World Bank, each has up to 2 million euros at its disposal, and 35 million euros are provided for financing local projects through reallocation of funds from TAV that were provided for the construction of a cargo airport.

- This decision finances 99 projects in 75 municipalities, projects for construction and reconstruction of local road infrastructure, water supply network, sewerage networks, reconstruction, construction of kindergartens and schools and sports facilities, reconstruction and construction of health facilities , and for other projects proposed by the municipality, said Zaev.
