Strong support from Italy for the start of negotiations of Northern Macedonia with the European Union and assurance that Rome will continue its efforts for the success of this process, which is considered important to start, both for the country and for the EU member states is The message conveyed by the Italian Minister of Interior Lucana Lamorgeze at today's meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

According to the Government Press Service, the meeting confirmed the good relations between the two countries in the field of education, economy, culture, defense, science, and noted the improvement of relations with the announced signing of the Anti-Drug Memorandum of Understanding, which will contributed to strengthening the joint fight against crime and corruption.

It is welcomed, it is added, the reforms made in this area in our country, which are considered to have increased the capacity of the bodies for dealing with crime and corruption. It is assessed that there are preconditions, as it is pointed out, to continue on the road to the EU, as well as that this is strategically important from a security and economic point of view.

Prime Minister Zaev thanked for the great friendship between the two countries.

- The Italian Republic is a strategic ally and partner in the Euro-Atlantic processes of our country, but also a great friend, which is shown through shared solidarity whenever necessary, such as the example of vaccines during the pandemic. By signing the Anti-Drug Memorandum, we will advance the common fight against crime and corruption, to which we are strongly committed. And with the promotion of the institutional cooperation between the countries, we open the way for the promotion of the good economic cooperation, which is important for the citizens and for the businesses, said Prime Minister Zaev.

Experiences were shared at the meeting regarding raising public awareness about the importance of vaccination, as well as about respecting the protection measures in conditions of the pandemic, reads the statement.
