The future German government wants to make coronavirus vaccines mandatory for all hospital staff, nursing homes and other health care providers from March 16, according to a bill passed by some agencies.

Germany has so far refrained from introducing mandatory vaccinations for fear of a growing shortage of medical staff and carers. But support for the move has risen as the country faces a rise in infections in the fourth wave of the pandemic.

The Social Democrats, the Greens and the Liberal Democratic Party, who are they preparing to form a new German government on Wednesday, plan to submit a new law to parliament next week.

The draft states that employees in the mentioned areas will have to prove by March 15 that they have been vaccinated against coronavirus, that they have contracted Covid-19 or submit a certificate that they can not be vaccinated.
