American director and writer Woody Allen has denied recent reports that he will retire after his next film.

"My idea, in principle, is not to make more films and to focus on writing," Allen reportedly said, La Vanguardia reported.

Last week, in an interview with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, Allen said his plan was to retire after the release of his next film, saying he would then start writing a novel. However, in a statement obtained by Variety, the director clarified the comments, and his representatives said.

"Woody Allen never said he was retiring, nor did he say he was writing another novel.

He said he thought about not making movies because he's not that comfortable making movies that go directly or very quickly to streaming platforms, because he's a big fan of the cinema experience. He has no intention of retiring at the moment and is very excited to be in Paris shooting his new film, which will be his 50th."

Production on his latest film is set to begin in a few weeks.

Woody Allen has decided to work in Europe in recent years due to declining support in the US due to allegations of abuse, reports say The Daily Mail.

His former partner Mia Farrow accused him of sexually abusing his adopted daughter Dylan in 1992, when she was seven years old.

The director has always denied allegations of abuse and no charges have ever been brought against him, although Dylan, 37, has stood by her allegations of abuse.

Mia Farrow admitted that Woody Allen was the biggest mistake of her life
