Vucic: Kurti can go to Brussels whenever he wants, I wish him a happy journey
The Serbian president Aleksandar Vuќi. commenting on the statement of the Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti who said that he will not go to Brussels only to discuss license plates, but for a comprehensive agreement, i.e. mutual recognition, said that Kurti can go to Brussels when he wants and how he wants, that is his problem, reported Pink.rs.
“Okay. He can go to Brussels when he wants, and how he wants, his problem. Did he say that as far as he was concerned the question of status was over? And as far as I'm concerned, the status issue is over, in accordance with the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 of the Security Council," said the Serbian president who added: "I wish him a happy journey to Brussels."
Kurti for the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said he would not go to Brussels to negotiate the number plate issue, but a comprehensive deal, which he said must be reached before spring 2023.
He emphasized that it is not spite, but principled.
"There are principles and values that I adhere to. We don't go to Brussels to negotiate about police officers, prosecutors, customs officers and heads of home services. We are there as representatives of two countries negotiating the normalization of relations. It is a dialogue about an agreement in principle, not just a crisis management dialogue. We do not need dialogue for the sake of dialogue or to show that Brussels is active. I wouldn't go to Brussels if it was just for the license plates. I will go to Brussels to conclude a comprehensive agreement. However, Mr Borrell insisted that we only sign the license plate statement, this was the main misunderstanding I had with him,” Kurti said.
Kurti also stated that the license plate agreement was reached not only to de-escalate the tense situation between Kosovo and Serbia, but also to start negotiations on a final agreement.
He said that the agreement must be reached before the spring of 2023.
"We did this not only for de-escalation, but also to create an opportunity for a quick start of negotiations for the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. They must be completed before spring 2023. That was the real purpose of the compromise,” Kurti said.
