Second day of storm in Greece, one missing on the island of Evia

The "Balos" storm has been creating problems in several parts of Greece for the second day in a row, a search for a missing man is underway in Evia, and preventive measures are in force in Athens, closed public services, schools and kindergartens, said the MIA correspondent from Athens.

In a village in the southern part of the island of Evia, the search for a missing 69-year-old man started late last night, involving 20 firefighters with seven vehicles, a team from the special unit for disaster management and a helicopter.

Today there are problems due to the heavy rain in Halkidiki, Evia, Corfu, and in Thessaloniki a bus crashed on the street, after a hole was opened in the asphalt, fortunately without injuring any of the passengers.

There are no problems in Athens today, given that it is not raining this morning and this morning, but the damage from yesterday's storm is being repaired.

A public transport bus, which got stuck in an underpass in Athens yesterday, has been at the same place for 24 hours, as the accumulated water reaches a meter and a half.

In less than 24 hours, in the period from 10 am yesterday until 7 am this morning, the Greek Fire Service received 1.424 calls for help, of which 779 in the area of ​​Attica, the wider part of Athens.

The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection of Greece, Christos Stylianidis, last night announced preventive measures due to the storm.

Between one o'clock in the morning and eight o'clock in the morning, two boulevards in Athens were closed, with a ban on car traffic and public transport, and today the state services in Attica were closed, while the Greek government recommended the private sector to work from home.

Primary and secondary schools, as well as kindergartens, are closed today in the area of ​​Attica, the greater part of Athens, Halkidiki, as well as on the islands of Evia, Samos, Corfu and Ikaria.
