The New York Times tech workers union has sent a letter to the company's board of directors, suggesting a deal be reached before the US election to avoid a strike.

"As the New York Times Technology Workers' Bargaining Committee, we are writing to inform you that Times officials in negotiations have shown an unwillingness to compromise on key contracts," the union's letter, posted on the X social network, said.

The union, which has about 700 tech workers, added that it is now in its third year of negotiations with company management over the contract and that its members have approved the strike on September 10.
