Employees in Germany spend an average of 17 percent of their working time working from home, but this percentage varies significantly across sectors, according to a report published by the Munich-based IFO Institute for Economic Research.
Working from home is particularly prevalent in the IT sector, where workers work from home an average of 58 percent of their working time, while in construction and hospitality this percentage amounts to only two percent.

The volume of work at home in Germany is in no way decreasing, it has not changed compared to the previous year," commented IFO researcher Jean-Victor Alipour.

Working from home is especially common in large companies where employees spend an average of 20 percent of their working time at home, and in small and medium-sized enterprises this percentage is only 15 percent. The share of German employees who work from home is currently 23,4 percent.

The results are based on a survey of a sample of approximately 9.000 companies in Germany, according to the IFO website.
