A mother saved her 5-year-old daughter from a shark off the coast of Mexico after the shark bit off her leg, leaving the woman to bleed to death. A disturbing video surfaced on social media over the weekend showing a young woman lying on the sand in the town of Melaka after being pulled from the ocean by rescuers.

The incident happened on Saturday, and authorities identified the woman as 26-year-old María Fernández Martínez Jimenez, a former marine biology student at the University of Guadalajara who lived in the area where the attack took place. New York Post.

Jimenez and her daughter were swimming in the ocean when she saw the shark. She rushed to push the little girl to safety. Rafael Araiza, head of the local civil defense office, says she managed to get the girl to safety, but was then attacked by the shark, which bit off her leg.

Despite the quick response of the rescuers, Jimenez died because she lost a large amount of blood. Her daughter was not injured. Authorities closed beaches in Melaka and the nearby town of Barra de Navidad as a precaution.
