Trajkovski the keeper died in the Skopje Zoo, and Floppy the giraffe a few hours later
A tragedy happened today in the Skopje Zoo. At the age of 44, Riste Trajkovski, the man who took care of the giraffes in the ZOO and who, with his unusual attitude towards exotic animals, was an inspiration for the people of Skopje, but also for the world-famous media, died. The cause of death is still unknown.
To make the tragedy even greater, a few hours later the last giraffe in the Skopje Zoo, the ten-year-old Floppy, died.
The employees of the Zoo spent several hours today trying to save the giraffe, but they failed. An official announcement from the Skopje Zoo is expected about Floppy's death.
Earlier, Casper the giraffe died of salmonella, then the rare Przheval horses were poisoned with a strong poison, after which ZOO Skopje lost its status as a candidate in the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums - EAZA.
