Meeting of Russian and American generals during NATO military exercises in Ukraine
At a time of heightened tensions between Russia and the United States, senior officials from both countries met in Finland to discuss reducing the "risk of incidents during hostilities."

Russia holds the United States partly responsible for the situation in Afghanistan following the chaotic withdrawal and takeover of power by the Taliban last month. Moscow fears infiltration by its Central Asian allies, Islamic State militants, and increased drug trafficking in the region.
Several military exercises held on both sides have contributed to tensions. Currently NATO drills are being held in western Ukraine, involving the United States and other members of the Alliance.
Another exercise called "United Forces 2021" began today in Ukraine, involving troops from 11 NATO members, the Defense Ministry said in Kiev.
The maneuvers are expected to involve 12.500 troops, who will use more than 600 pieces of military equipment equipment across the country, and will last until next Thursday
