A man arrested in Washington with a weapon and a fake pass for Biden's inauguration

Police found more than 500 rounds of ammunition, including a pistol case and a shotgun.

U.S. police in the U.S. capital have arrested a man who allegedly tried to cross a checkpoint in the city with a forged permit to attend the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden and also possessed a pistol loaded with more than 500 rounds of ammunition, US media reported.

A report on the incident by the Metropolitan Police, obtained by CNN, states that the arrested person, Wesley Allen Biller, while being searched at one of the checkpoints in Washington, had a semi-automatic "Glock" pistol in his truck. He also had unauthorized permission to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new president, the media added.

Police found more than 500 rounds of ammunition, including a pistol case and a shotgun.

Beller was arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition.

National Guard members have stepped up local security forces in the US capital, and more than 25.000 members of the security forces are expected to attend the Jan. 20 ceremony.

Measures have been stepped up following a deadly incursion by protesters into the Capitol on January 6, killing at least five people.

There have also been threats from the far right that more violence could break out in the capital.
