Five times more aflatoxin than allowed in Serbian flour

Switzerland is again withdrawing from the markets corn flour originating from Serbia – this time it is only yellow flour, and the reason is a significantly higher amount of aflatoxin than allowed by law, announced RASFF, the European system for rapid alert and information on food.

According to the RASFF website, the allowable amount of aflatoxin in corn flour is 2 µg/kg – ppb (two micrograms per kilogram). In a sample of flour taken on July 10 of this year, the presence of the mycotoxin aflatoxin B1 was detected in a larger amount than allowed: in yellow corn flour – 11,4 μg/kg, which is 5,7 times more than allowed.

The risk of using this product has been assessed as "potentially serious" and the product has been withdrawn from the market.
