A ship carrying grain was hit in a Ukrainian port by a Russian missile attack
A Russian missile attack hit the Ukrainian port of Yuzhne yesterday, damaging a civilian ship sailing under the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, loaded with corn, the Ukrainian Ministry of Communal Development and Territorial Organization announced today.
The ministry said via Facebook that the 15 crew members were not injured.
"Fortunately, none of the 15 crew members, who are citizens of Egypt and Syria, were injured. The ship was loaded with about 6000 tons of Ukrainian corn. This is exclusively a civilian cargo," the statement said.
The ministry said this is the 20th civilian ship hit in Russian attacks.
"This is nothing but an attempt by Russia to hinder the successful functioning of the Ukrainian sea food corridor and threaten the global security of food supply," said Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba.
In early September, a ship flying the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis was hit by a Russian missile in the Black Sea. Later in the month, another Antiguan-flagged ship was hit in a Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian port of Odessa.
