Floods in Germany have killed at least 156 people
At least 45 people have been killed in North Rhine-Westphalia and one in the state of Berchtesgadener-Land (Bavaria).
The death toll from floods in Germany has risen to 156. In just one area of Ahrweiler (Rhineland-Palatinate), 110 people have died.

It is feared that the death toll is much higher, as many people are missing.
The southwestern part of Germany has been hit by heavy rains since Monday, causing tributaries of the Rhine and Moselle to overflow, as well as the small rivers Sauer, Prum, Nimes, Kiel and Erft.
A state of emergency has been declared in southeastern Bavaria in the Berchtesgadener-Land region due to the floods. The situation is tense in the eastern part of the German state of Saxony.
