A Macedonian citizen has been detained in Kosovo, for whom an international warrant has been issued for aggravated murder

A citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia has been detained in Kosovo, for whom Interpol, at the request of the Macedonian police, has issued an international warrant, because he was convicted of aggravated murder and did not return to serve his sentence after being released for the weekend.

The Basic Court in Uroševac announced today that it approved the request of the Basic Prosecutor's Office from the same city to determine a measure of detention against the person identified by the initials H.E., requested by the authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia, based on an international warrant due to the existence of grounds for suspicion of a crime the crime of aggravated murder, which crime is also provided for by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

According to the announcement, after holding an interrogation and analysis of the files of the case, the judge in a preliminary procedure of the Department for Serious Crimes, assessed that there is a well-founded suspicion that an international warrant has been issued for the same person by Interpol, with a request of March 7, 2022 to the Republic North Macedonia, due to the crime of aggravated murder, which crime is also provided for by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

- In connection with this, the accused H.E. was sentenced to prison by the Court in Skopje, where he has been serving the sentence for several years, so that he had not yet served the sentence in its entirety, at the time he was released to freedom to visit, escaped from the Republic of North Macedonia. The judge in a previous procedure approved the state prosecutor's request to determine a measure of detention against the accused in accordance with Article 22 paragraph 1 of the Law on International Legal Cooperation in Criminal Matters (Law No. 04/L-213) and the same measure of detention was determined for him of forty days. In this case, the parties are informed that the appeal against this decision does not delay its execution, the announcement states.

For now, there is no information about when, where and under what circumstances the Macedonian citizen was arrested in Kosovo.
