China said today that nearly 60.000 people with Covid-19 have died in hospitals since the country suddenly ended its zero-tolerance policy on the coronavirus in early December.
Between Dec. 8 and Jan. 12, a total of 59.938 people with an average age of 80,3 years died in Chinese hospitals from the coronavirus, Jiao Yahui, director of the Medical Administration Bureau of the National Health Commission, said at a press briefing.
She said 5.503 deaths were caused by respiratory problems due to Covid-19, while 54.435 were the result of a combination of coronavirus and other diseases.
When it comes to the deceased, 90,1 percent were over 65 years old.
