Japan has confirmed the first case of Omicron strain of coronavirus, found in a tourist who recently arrived from Namibia.

Japanese Government Secretary Hirokaz Matsuno said the patient was about 30 years old. He was tested at the airport on November 28 and after a positive result he was isolated and regularly received therapy.

Yesterday, his analysis determined that he was infected with the Omicron strain, which the World Health Organization warned was high risk. Omicron strain was first discovered in a laboratory in South Africa.

Japan closed its borders to foreigners yesterday to prevent the spread of the new Omicron strain, which experts say could be dangerous for vaccinated people.
